Aeroseal Duct Sealing Technology: Maximize Home Comfort and Efficiency

Welcome to the ultimate solution for inefficient home heating and cooling: Aeroseal Duct Sealing Technology. Discover how this innovative process can transform your HVAC system’s performance, delivering significant energy savings, enhanced comfort, and superior air quality. Stop letting conditioned air, heat—and your money—disappear into your walls and attic.

What is Aeroseal and How Does It Work?

Aeroseal is a patented, non-invasive technology designed to pinpoint and seal leaks throughout your home’s entire ductwork system from the inside.

The Technology: A Closer Look

Aeroseal doesn’t rely on messy, imprecise manual sealing of accessible joints. Instead, it uses a sophisticated, computer-controlled process:

  1. Preparation: All supply and return registers are temporarily blocked off. The Aeroseal equipment is connected to the ductwork system, typically at the main trunk line or an access point.
  2. The Sealant: The core of the Aeroseal process is a specialized, atomized polymer sealant—a food-grade, vinyl-acetate emulsion that forms micro-balloons in the air stream.
  3. Application & Sealing: The sealant is blown under pressure into the ductwork. As this air-suspended plastic polymer travels through the ducts, it encounters leaks, cracks, and gaps—even those as small as a pinhole. The polymer particles are designed to build up at the edges of these leak points, effectively “plugging” the opening without coating the entire interior of the duct.
  4. Computer Monitoring: The entire process is monitored in real-time by a computer, which precisely measures the amount of leakage before and during the sealing process. The system ensures only the leaks are sealed, leaving the main airflow unimpeded.

Essentially, you can imagine the fine polymer as a controlled, safe “plastic balloon” that is pushed into your existing ductwork to seek out and close any gaps that may have formed during installation or throughout years of natural wear and shifting of the system.

The Problem: Duct Leakage and Its Cost

Your home’s furnace or air conditioner operates by heating or cooling air and then pushing it through a network of ductwork to the desired rooms. When there are holes, cracks, or separations where duct pieces meet, the conditioned air leaks out before reaching its intended destination.

The Real-World Impact

  • Energy Waste: When air leaks out, less air goes to the desired location. This forces your furnace or air conditioning unit to work much harder and run longer to achieve the thermostat’s set temperature, resulting in significantly higher utility bills.
  • Reduced Comfort: Leaky ducts create inconsistent temperatures, leaving some rooms too hot in the summer and others too cold in the winter. This often leads to frustrating temperature imbalances throughout the home.
  • Poor Air Quality: Leaks in the return ducts can draw in dirty air from unconditioned spaces like attics, crawlspaces, and wall cavities, bringing in dust, mold spores, insulation particles, and other allergens directly into your living space.

A Striking Example of Inefficiency

Before Aeroseal, it is common for a typical residential HVAC system to have a significant amount of leakage.

ConditionExample Leakage RateSystem EfficiencyConditioned Air Delivered
Without Aeroseal (Typical)15% Leakage85% Efficiency15% of your expensive conditioned air is being dumped into your walls or attic.
With Aeroseal (Post-Treatment)1.1% Leakage98.9% EfficiencyThe air is now flowing in the right direction, maximizing comfort and minimizing energy use.

By reducing leakage from 15% to a mere 1.1%, Aeroseal boosts system efficiency by nearly 14%. That means 15% of the warm air during the winter and cool air during the summer that was previously wasted is now delivered directly to the vents in your desired rooms!

The Process: Guaranteed Results

One of the most valuable aspects of the Aeroseal process is the rigorous, verifiable measurement of results. You don’t just hope it works—you get definitive proof.

Step 1: The Initial Leak Test (Pre-Seal)

Before any sealant is applied, a computerized diagnostic test is performed. This initial leak test will accurately show:

  • Initial Leakage Rate: The total amount of air (measured in CFM—Cubic Feet per Minute) currently leaking from your system.
  • System Capacity: A baseline understanding of your system’s performance.

This provides the true, often surprising, starting point for your system’s inefficiency.

Step 2: The Installation and Sealing

The Aeroseal equipment is set up and the sealant is introduced into the ductwork, with the computer continuously charting the progress of the sealing process.

Step 3: The Final Leak Test (Post-Seal)

Once the sealing is complete, a new, final leak test is performed. This measurement documents the dramatic improvement, showing how effectively Aeroseal has closed the gaps. You will be provided with a certificate of completion that charts the entire process, providing definitive proof of the leakage reduction and the increased efficiency of your HVAC system.
